Michael F. Hertzfeld
for State Representative of the 27th District
I am Michael Francis Hertzfeld (Mike), a lifelong resident of Delaware. I am a Democrat running for the Delaware State House of Representatives to represent the citizens of 27th District. I attended St. Mark's High School, where I was fortunate to study and excel with many of today's Delaware leaders. Since then, I have been active in the surrounding communities for over 40 years.
My life's focus has been family, education and service. I have been married to my wife for over 26 years and raising our two sons has been the joy of my life. My eldest son will be graduating from Wilmington University this spring and my youngest son is graduating from middle school in the Appoquinimink School District.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Human Resources and Master of Science in Homeland Security Organizational Leadership from Wilmington University. Additionally, I am a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy and I am currently an adjunct professor at Delaware State University.
Early in my career, I realized I wanted to serve and took a position with Project Stay Free. Project Stay Free was a non-profit organization focused on pre-trial mentoring and supporting troubled / adjudicated youth in the local community. My interaction with these young people motivated me to do more. I have coached and mentored young men through founding and running a baseball non-profit organization.
I started my career as a police officer in 1996 and have served with distinction. My current role as Chief of the Delaware Capital Police brings me full circle in my community service. As a public servant, I have received many awards and accolades, to include the State of Delaware House of Representatives Exceptional Duty Award and the New Castle City Officer of the Year. I have also served as Chairman of the Delaware Special Olympics and Vice-president of the Fraternal Order of Police Union Lodge 11.
I want to continue my service by representing you and the 27th District!
